I'd go with verified reviews. The reason is I still browse IMDB/ Rotten Tomatoes to see the ratings anyway, before picking up a title. This leads to navigation outside platform and reduces time spent in Netflix. Also, if reviews are bad, it should be used as lever for improving the quality of the content, IMO :)

The larger question is what % of users do you think have the same behaviour as you? Because it feels like you're optimising for "rating-checkers-on-different-apps" persona. If that persona is very small (as a % of all NF viewers) then this might not be the best direction to take.

Good point. I think this would need some validation on how large that user base is. I agree that ultimately need to optimize for the largest user base

I would remove reviews since it doesn’t align with my North Star metric. I would keep recommending based on viewers previous rating and genre liked.

Does that mean that adding reviews will not positively impact the northstar?

Maybe there is a different way to implement them? Also, if the users want them, how do you justify not having them?

Since the user has come on the app for watching something which s/he likes (Job to be done), they wouldn’t give much attention to the reviews till the time suggested content is as per their liking and they find value in it.

I initially chose "verified reviews" to ensure the feedback received will be authentic, reflecting opinions from viewers who watched at least 70% of the show. However, upon fully reviewing the article, I realized these reviews were not particularly beneficial for the product, "Netflix Originals."

So does that mean you now recommend not having reviews? Maybe the NF originals are actually not good and that is why it is getting bad reviews? And that might motivate NF to produce better content?

I will go with verified reviews. The business upside could be adding this as a benefit for super premium tier of user to 'write' reviews. Only users who are higher tier can write reviews. What do you think?

Do you think that could introduce a bias in the reviews? And is that bias okay for the platform?
